/tend/

by Julia Rosenthal

We tend to our gardens.

Why not tend to ourselves?

Preparing the soil.

Preparing my food.

Placing the seeds in their divots, with intention.

Placing the warming nutrients into my mouth, with thanks.

Layering the seed with amendments and compost.

Layering affirmations into my being.

Watering the seeds, prompting germination.

Watering my body, hydrating my cells.

Pulling embedded weeds from the dirt.

Pulling embedded fear based narratives from my mind.

Noticing the sprout breaking though the layer of garnished soil.

Noticing my thoughts sprouting from love.

Showing gratitude, to the first true leaves.

Showing gratitude, to my body and soul.

Cutting the stems back to encourage more growth.

Cutting back relationships and habits that don't serve my growth.

Sharing excitement at sight of the first bloom.

Sharing excitement as I bloom.

Adorning the fullness of her petals, colors, hearty stem, and luscious leaves.

Adorning the fullness of my heart, purpose, and abundant spirit.

Slowly pulling nutrients from her pinnacle, back into her stem, she fades.

Slowly pulling all I have learned, to reflect and ground.

Returning to the soil, cyclically, for next year's bounty.

Returning inward, cyclically, for now I have love to share.

Allowing rest, to blossom again.
